Get Ripped

I propose a topic here where folks can ask / answer workout questions, such as how to use stuff, or do a particular thing say if you don't know how to do a pushup or whatever.
Then anyone who knows can chime in ... hopefully informative.

I will start by asking this: I've heard of those ab balls that're supposed to do a number on the abs. Anyone know how to use one, and care to give a description?

I love those things. I got one for my birthday last year, and it's one of the best presents I ever got. There are so many things you can do with those, and you can work out a lot more than just your abbs.

Sit-ups can be done this way by sitting on the inflated ball as far forward as you can. When you lean back, the ball will roll forward. Sitting up will roll it back. So you can get some support from the ball while still using your abbs to lean back and sit up again.

Another one I like to do is to lay down on a soft surface on your back with your legs straight up, and your arms behind your head holding the ball. Start by lifting the ball with your arms until it meets your raised feet. Put the ball between your feet, and lower both your legs and your arms. Note that you should lower your arms back to their original position behind your head. Then, without relaxing, raise both your arms and your legs with the ball held tightly between your feet. Pass the ball from your feet to your arms, and lower both legs and arms again. Repeat this 10 to 20 times, depending how much of a workout you want.

I hope I described those okay. I know quite a few more, so just ask if you want to know.

Hey that's good, and I can use it with a bar belle even, I should think.

Now I have another question:
"aerobic" - general amping up I use a step in my garage; going up and down on it, just carry weights with me when I want to pump harder - aerobic I guess they call it.
I used to use a eliptical and other things when we lived at a complex with a gym, but don't really want to put out a bunch of money on equipment right now. Even, unfortunately, the boxing bag is out for now and those are really simple - the big ones where you can use your feet as well as hands.
Anyway last night I read on the net where a blind guy says he uses a trampoline - don't know how to spell those things as my Braille display wasn't with me at the time - any of you all use those? It didn't sound like what we used have in the backyard as kids where you're just jumping around on this big surface, it is smaller and can fit in a garage. Apparently supposed to get a lot of mileage out of it / be a good workout if you go for it.
I'd like to run on something like that if only because in my garage my legs can get sore - not work-out sore but more like the shocks and struts don't work quite the same as they used to on cement.
What he didn't really describe is how he stayed on it. Any of you all use something like that? Further to this is for me exercise is a non-concentrating act I guess you could say. Running on steps, pushups, weights, things like that, don't really require thought, which is nice because exercise is a brain break for me. I often work out solutions to problems for work , - that and it lets off the stress. I'd like to use a surface like the trampoline if possible but without too much concentration. I have no sight but don't have what someone called "spacial problems" I think the term was, apparently common for us lifers. But I just don't want to be thinking every other minute about stepping off.
So if you have used a trampoline or something like it, how fast can you crank yourself up, and what do you do to keep from stepping off? Unfortunately the thing I read last night was more a marketing thing to get blind people on the fitness bandwagon or whatever it sounded like, not too much in the how to.

Well, the trampolines are good because it absorbs your steps, so it's a lot easier on your knees. I really don't know how to keep from stepping off though. The good news is that they're low to the ground, so you most likely won't hurt yourself too bad if you do.

wondered about that, well if I'm going fast then it would be just a jump anyway ...

If you're in your garage simply put an I bolt in the wall stud, then tie a short piece of rope to it then run. You'll know if you're getting to far, because the rope tightens, but if you step off no harm done. I like these ab balls, but a basket ball will serve the same thing.

They will, but they're a bit small. You could still manage exercises, but it wouldn't be very comfortable. Of course, when is working out exactly comfortable? Lol.

I'm adicted. It's my drug of choice, so it's comfortable. Lol. I don't do it I go in to withdraw. Strange I know, but the case. I've been at it most of my life, when I became an adult and went through a tough time it was my sanity saver, so if it's a bit tight, well good. Lol

I've heard a lot of people are, actually. Personally, I usually need a bit of a push. Lol.

Well I've started using one of my 20-pound weights - doing with it what you all suggested with the ball.
Yes, I am pretty addicted - especially if I'm working - to being able to go work out after work. Fortunately it's in my garage so don't have to ride the bus to the gym, then wait , then the rest ... waste half an evening ...
So I'll either get one of the trampoline or get a mat and a jump rope - whichever my wife can find cheaper. Down the road I'm gonna get a boxing bag again ... but I realized first oughta do something about the feet as the proverbial shocks and struts don't appreciae the concrete all that well ... lol
